Face it bros & sisters, we worshipped these men just as modern Catholics sigh and clutch their heart as their current feeble pope endeavors to move his lips to form a word.

Depending on the situation (such as the reasoning behind the DF'ing of the guy to begin with and in what way the elder felt he should suffer), I might've had a hard time not responding in a very harsh manner to that elder. Many of them must not understand what damage DF'ing can do to people and their entire worlds, i.e. ripping apart their families, friendships, everything they've known, etc... I think that's suffering more than enough as compared to them just sometimes seemingly liking seeing people get shunned (though I understand not all elders are this way).
i already heard one argument on this, that the scripture referred to (proverbs 4:18) in context was actually advice of a father to his son on how during his life he would continue to grow spiritually throughout his life.
but a closer look shows that there is no mention at all of new light, in any context.
it says "but the path of the righteous ones is like the bright light that is getting lighter and lighter until the day is firmly estblished" [analogy: from darkness of the night gradually to the full light of the day?].
It's quite tempting to push the analogy one step further, à la A Paduan : only going against the Wind/Spirit requires "tacking"...

And I wish I knew how to make smileys from other websites work on this one; there's an awesome Borg one that has a regular smiley sitting there and a robotic one coming along with something sticking out of it into the regular one that makes that robot eye thing and stuff appear on it, and then it follows the first robotic borg-smiley off the screen.
I'd love to see one made up that reverses that process, like Picard and, later, Data getting away from and out of the Borg; I'd use that one for you here~!

"new light" is really a trigger word for JWs... a way to explain away anything that might trouble them. It stops them from asking questions. They must accept all "new light" as part of their faith. Thus the society can call any change "new light" and it has immediate credibility. It's not scriptural at all. I even pointed this out to an elder, even read the scripture. to him. His answer was that it didn't matter if it wasn't in the Bible. We were to follow the FDS.Just another reason I'm no longer there.

i have recently been blessed with my wife (currently df'd jw) starting to look into some things, and she's read the book "questions for jehovah's witnesses" by the cetners.
she still feels she needs to see something she feels is more reliable for dates such as the 1925 patriarchs, etc, and when i was doing research, i noticed the best quotes to show seem to be from books such as the millions now living will never die and the way to paradise, but they're really old, and i couldn't find any available on e-bay or as reprints on cds on my search.
does anybody know a way to get ahold of these books?
